I might be living under a rock, but what is the hot new tech item for this Christmas/holiday season? Usually I am able to figure out what it is because it’s always been my dad’s Christmas gift to my mom. Last year? The Kindle. But this year? Nothing is really standing out to me? I have been reading a bit about the Droid. Could that be it?
I think I have found out what the hot kid’s toy is though. Upon listening to NPR the other day, I heard this news story about a sold out hamster toy named Zhu Zhu Hamster. Basically, it’s a motorized hamster that scurries around in its designated play set. It makes noises and generally looks cute and cuddly as well. And, of course, you can always add on to the hamster’s playset to make one giant place for the artificial intelligent toy to move around in.

I’m really not that impressed. Having been told (from an early age) that hamsters were just rodents (in a family of dog and cat people), I couldn’t imagine owning a hamster, much less a toy of them. Besides, is that really that much of a departure from those older mechanical hamsters, minus the quasi-artificial intelligence?

Remember when the Furby was the hot new toy? I waited so long to get one, and when I did, I played with for… about an hour? The concept was sort of neat, but the execution (its voice) turned out to be a little bit annoying. Am I alone here?

Oh the Furby! haha that thing was so creepy! It would wake me up in the middle night with it’s weird creepy noises. Anyway, I hear ya on the tech of the season. I think it’s mostly repeats from last year. Kindle, iPod touch, cameras. Nothing extraordinary that I’ve seen. I just posted a gift guide if you want to check it out on my blog =)
According to Amazon its the Kindle again. Most purchased, most wished for, etc. Your dad is just ahead of his time.
I can’t believe that this thing is so popular. Plus, it seems to have all of the accessories that the rodent, I mean hamster needs. Amazing. But I have to admit, I would be all over it if Abigail was older. What better way to give in to the Mommy, I want a pet.
Great post! Thanks for sharing!
very funny toys where did you find them?
